Microplastics now outnumber the amount of fish in the oceans, and humans are responsible for it. They are a byproduct of humans, caused by wasteful consumption. These effects that we are having on the planet is something that is easily preventable, and just requires some education and an adaptive lifestyle. At the beginning of 2019, I decided to give up all single-use plastic and find waste-free, eco-friendly options that could easily fit into my daily life. This decision followed getting a new job that showed me that a packaging free lifestyle is a possible switch. Also seeing my family begin to change their ways to help the Earth motivated me to change my habits while being away at school. My family has always been looking for new ways to source food and more ethical ways to clean and power our house. While observing these things in my own home I decided to document greener alternatives that we have begun to practice in our daily routines. We have changed our norms to be more aware of our effects of consumption. We only learned these things after being educated about how our lives could be so easily altered and how we have an impact on the plant based on our choices. This project is a study of how my household consumes responsibly and how we dispose of products in a more environmentally friendly way.
